GM says it has 2,700 jobs available for workers slated to be laid off

Posted By GMbeat on Articles - General Motors' plans to lay off 14,000 salaried and blue-collar workers might not be quite as bad as originally projected. The company said Friday that 2,700 out of the 3,300 U.S. factory jobs slated for elimination will now be saved. Blue-collar workers will still lose jobs at four U.S. plants slated for closure next year, but most will be able to find employment at eight other GM factories where jobs are being added. Some would have to relocate. GM still plans to lay off about 8,000 white-collar workers and another 2,600 factory workers in Canada.

Donald Trump tears into GM: Mary Barra's decision was 'nasty'

The company also is in the process of cutting 8,000 white-collar workers.

With passenger car sales slumping, GM plans to discontinue six models in North America: the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6. Cadillac XTS, Chevy Cruze, Chevy Impala, and Chevy Volt.

In GM country, workers aren't abandoning Trump — 'I'd give him a B right now'

Posted By GMbeat on Articles - Since General Motors announced its decision this week to shut down its hulking Lordstown plant — the anchor of this northeast Ohio town — workers on the line have had nothing but questions. Will they have jobs come spring? Should they put in for transfers and move their families to Texas or Tennessee? How much should they spend on Christmas? One they haven't yet answered: Who is to blame?
